craft wine and beer

Craft Wine and Beer is my family’s business, a bar and bottle shop in my hometown of Reno, Nevada. Upon opening in 2011, I was put to work sweeping floors. Thankfully, I’ve since graduated from the mop sink and now find myself in the office.

As a freelance graphic designer for them, I spent my time bringing the authentic, homegrown, community-oriented energy the shop proudly boasts to life in the form of refreshed branding materials, packaging, and merchandise.

The first order of business was to hit our logo with a bit of a refresh. Not that we’re ditching the moniker of Craft Wine and Beer, but we wanted to offer up the fact that even those who don’t partake in alcohol (whether by choice, age, whatever) have something to enjoy at Craft. Not to mention, reframing our logo enables us to support our community through sponsoring causes who might not want to directly promote drinking alcohol, like schools or nonprofits.

My next undertaking was a trio of wine bottle bags inspired by Craft’s original logo, which was a woodblock carving made by a family friend. I wanted to maintain the warm, tactile quality of the original carving, but with a new set of scenes celebrating what makes Craft so special: the fruit, the land, and the community that enjoys them.

I was very excited to work on business cards for the owner and general manager at Craft. Throughout development, it was important to me to represent the same connections to the land, the fruit, and the community that enabled Craft to thrive. We wanted to maintain a hand-drawn quality with these to carry the DIY and community nature of the business. Both versions are tailored to the individuals: Ty, a lifelong fan of old ninja films; and Joey, a lover of all things outdoor.

One project I had a lot of fun developing was the 2025 postcards, a whimsical set of seasonal postcards to send out to beloved friends and prospective new patrons of the shop. We wanted to represent the seasons through the products featured at the shop: a rich wave of fruity, summery wine; a blast of a chilled, frothy Oktoberfest lager; or a pond of warm whiskey to soothe the winter cold. With a small group of characters adventuring through the year, we wanted to show that Craft is the place to be, no matter the weather.

One of my favorite parts of working with Craft is the annual t-shirt. Every year, a new artist is asked to make a design for the anniversary merch, and over the past few years I have been delighted to not only create my own design, but to work alongside other artists to get their designs ready for print! Featured below is my design, followed by two submitted by my younger brother, Hollis Martin, and artist and designer Alex Arciniega.
