craft wine and beer

Craft Wine and Beer is a family owned bar and bottle shop in Reno, Nevada. Who’s family, you may (or may not) be wondering? Well, as it so happens, mine. My old man, Ty, opened Craft in 2011, and I, at the ripe age of 11, was put straight to work sweeping floors. Over a decade later, I’ve thankfully graduated from the mop sink and now find myself not behind the bar, but behind a screen.

As a freelance graphic designer for them, I spent my time bringing the authentic, homegrown, community-oriented energy the shop proudly boasts to life in the form of refreshed branding materials, packaging, and merchandise.

The first order of business was to hit our logo with a bit of a refresh. Not that we’re ditching the moniker of Craft Wine and Beer, but we wanted to offer up the fact that even those who don’t partake in alcohol (whether by choice, age, whatever) have something to enjoy at Craft. Not to mention, reframing our logo enables us to support our community through sponsoring causes who might not want to directly promote drinking alcohol, like schools or nonprofits.

My next undertaking was a trio of wine bottle bags inspired by Craft’s original logo, which was a woodblock carving made by a family friend. I wanted to maintain the warm, tactile quality of the original carving, but with a new set of scenes celebrating what makes Craft so special: the fruit, the land, and the community that enjoys them.

Next up was, the annual Craft shirt. As an avid supporter of local artists, my father has held a long-running tradition of having a different artist design a limited-edition T-shirt. To lovers of the store, the shirts become a beloved collectable piece of memorabilia. This year, the artist was none other than… my little brother Hollis (age 9). Sibling or not, the kid did a great job and I had the pleasure of coordinating with him on getting his pencil drawing perfect for print.
